Job Description

Position Summary

Reporting to the SOCC Manager, the Flight Follower is the key position responsible and accountable for the coordination and communication of all aircraft movements, and for assisting in the planning, directing, coordinating, and communicating of all aspects of Perimeter’s aircraft operations, both ground and air. The Flight Follower is also responsible to complete and to ensure the completion of daily administrative tasks in relation to aircraft movements.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Perform Flight Following and maintain the airline management software, which includes inputting Out, Off, On, and In times for all flights, as well as a delay code when required
  • Modify flight routing for all flights, as required
  • Ensure that updated information is provided to Crew Scheduling, Duty Manager and the Flight Dispatch Centre, as the airline management software is updated
  • Assist, if required, with ensuring that customer requirements are met on all flights with respect to flight crew and other items that may arise after hours
  • Possess the ability to make informed decisions without compromising internal policies/procedures
  • Provide training and mentoring to new flight followers, ensuring that the SOCC is maximizing operational effectiveness
  • Monitor the airline management software, consulting and communicating with all departments to ensure operations run smoothly and efficiently
  • Communicate to all departments when an irregular operations (IROP) situation occurs
  • Communicate movement reports for all flights when required
  • Predict “real-time” and proactively organize/re-organize all flights on the “Day of Ops” Board when required
  • Assign all flights in the airline management software to an aircraft
  • Work with the Duty Manager and Maintenance Operations Control (MOC) to schedule all required maintenance
  • Assist when required by MOC to input maintenance blocks into the airline management software
  • Work with Crew Scheduling to communicate flight assignment changes to appropriate crew members
  • Assist the Duty Manager and Commercial Ops, when required, with passenger loads and organizing aircraft to maximize customer service and efficiency in “real-time”
  • Enter all required data from the Operational Flight Plans and Journey Logbook to ensure flight crew flight time information is accurate
  • Perform daily Quality Control (QC) audits of Operational Flight Plans
  • Populate and send the daily SOCC report
  • Identify and recommend efficiency opportunities to management, which will improve upon daily processes to capture operational efficiencies, i.e. improve reporting accuracy, completeness, timeliness, routes that need more/less capacity
  • Demonstrate positive and respectful teamwork by providing ongoing support and assistance to the SOCC and understanding how your performance may affect the Operations department
  • Actively demonstrate the willingness to share knowledge and learn from others
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) equivalent
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain any applicable transportation security clearances and additional authorizations
  • Canadian Radio License (Aeronautical) required
  • Prior experience in operations and/or flight coordination preferred but not required
  • Transport Canada Generic Dispatch Exams (FDMET and FDOPS) are considered an asset, but not required
  • Strong customer service experience is considered an asset
  • Previous experience with Airline Management Software is considered an asset
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Indigenous and Cultural Awareness Training is considered an asset

Working Conditions

  • Physically able to perform all listed job duties
  • Travel by aircraft and other means as required by role
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and telephone
  • Modified work agreement (7 on/7 off or Monday-Friday)
  • Various shifts at a fast pace in order to meet service level requirements of the airline
  • Work performed primarily in an office environment
  • Able to work outside of public transit hours
  • Occasional lifting of approximately 30 lbs may be required
  • Physical location of this position is only accessible via flight of stairs
